The Vancouver Island Society of Cricket Umpires and Scorers (VISCUS) has been inactive for the past few years This is unfortunate since the art of umpiring and recording a match are vital elements to this great game.
VISCUS has to take actions to attract more members and foster a greater interest in continually improving the quality of umpiring and scoring in the league. This will be the aim of the new executive. Our ideal is to have more members qualified to umpire and with a greater level of confidence on the field, more members interested in keeping a complete scorebook as a record of the match, and appreciating the nuances of this essential aspect of cricket.
VISCUS will hold coaching sessions for both umpiring and scoring when the demand presents itself, and will consider a range of ways to accomplish this. We encourage all umpires to use the "Captains' Report of Umpires" which was reintroduced last year, as a feedback tool for self-improvement, and the standardized record card which was distributed last year.
We look forward to the new season, and will work in tandem with VDCA to enhance the playing, umpiring, scoring and spectating of our sport.
