VDCA President's Message

Introduction

David Norrish was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, and never played cricket beyond the backyards and sidestreets of his home until coming to Canada in 2001. His paucity of real talent has never diminished either his love for the game or his desire to see it played well.
His favourite shots are the hoick, the slip drive, and the glorious leave, and his bowling has been described as "loopy-loopy" (except in the nets, where he is rumoured to be an unplayable demon).
As President, David's great hope is to broaden the VDCA's involvement in the wider community of Victoria, and, by doing so, open up new avenues for the leagues to grow. It is his view that new players, especially junior players, are undoubtedly the key to ensuring the long-term health of cricket in Victoria.

2011-03-02	Midweek Meeting Attended February 2011 Midweek Meeting at Beacon Hill Pavilion.
2011-02-18	Invited to CBC Radio 2 - All Points West with Jo-Ann Roberts to give a brief introduction and preview of the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. Many thanks to Juniors Coach Tony Boardman for his accompaniment and assured baritone.
2011-02-16	Executive Meeting Chaired Feburary 2011 Executive Meeting at Beacon Hill Pavilion.
2011-02-10	Met with representatives of the City of Victoria Parks, Recreation and Culture Department, accompanied by Secretary Peter Machin, to discuss resurfacing of the Beacon Hill Park cricket field, and various other issues regarding the field and pavilion.
2011-01-19	VDCA Extraordinary General Meeting Chaired ExGM to discuss and approve (by majority vote) membership fee structure for 2011 season.
2011-01-19	Facilitated meeting between VDCA Executive and Midweek Executive boards to discuss the possiblity of uniting administrative responsibilities for all cricket in Victoria under a single body.
2010-12-03	Informal meeting with Midweek President Herman Solomon to share ideas for bringing weekend and midweek competitions and clubs closer together in future.
2010-11-17	Executive Meeting Chaired November 2010 Executive Meeting at Beacon Hill Pavilion.
2010-11-14	Met with Executive Board (1st VP, 2nd VP, Treasurer, Secretary) over tea and biscuits at Beacon Hill to discuss ongoing issues. Asked continuing members (1st VP & 2nd VP) particularly to bring new members up to speed. Resolved that in future handover of outoing officers' documents and records should take place at the AGM, and the incoming officers briefed immediately.
2010-11-06	Cricket BC AGM Attended Cricket BC AGM at Brockton Point, Vancouver, accompanied by 1st VP Javed Khan, 2nd VP Tanzil Rehman (also VDCA Rep to Cricket BC), and club representatives. Met with Cricket BC Executive - President Vimal Hardat, Secretary Mohan Kumar, Treasurer Dave McGowan - and various others, including BCMCL President Inamul Desai and VP Alex Turco. Raised concerns regarding lack of communication between the provincial body and the leagues, and the obstacles presented by the current Cricket BC Constitution leading to difficulties for parties outside the lower mainland gaining adequate representation and involvement with Cricket BC. Received assurances that such concerns would be addressed, and was invited to present suggestions for resolutions as soon as possible.
2010-10-26	Requested turnover of all relevant records, files, bills, cheques, accounts, contacts, etc., from outgoing Executive members, including President (Phil Glen), Secretary (Adam Erickson), and Treasurer (Azfar Malik and Phil Glen).
2010-10-20	VDCA Annual General Meeting Elected by acclamation (no other nominees, none opposed). Thanks to outgoing President, Phil Glen, for his service during the 2010 season.
